So I just acquired Norah Jones’ new album Little Broken Hearts. I’m not quite sure how I feel about it just yet, but it is interesting. The album was produced by Danger Mouse who is a musical genius, but some of the songs do get a liiittttllleee too auto-tuned for someone who doesn’t really need it. None the less, there are some interesting songs like ‘Mirium’ which is a bit dark and Marianne Faithfullesque in comparison to her usual style. This album seems much less raw, but a lot more edgy with more pop influences than the folky / jazzy tunes we’ve been accustomed to hearing. The songs are more produced and finished than some of her previous albums which may seem more intimate as if you were listening to her on your back porch. This album is a good album, and even refreshing; however, if you’re in the mood to hear “Norah Jones” this may not be your first pick out of the stack. None the less, I do love ‘Happy Pills’ and the official lyric video which features only fun graphic typography with amazing 1950’s colors like flamingo pink and beach house yellow. I could watch it a million times! Check out the video and listen for yourself, you may just love it.
